Navigation - Steering Simulator  Simulation

The ARI Steering Simulator is a cost-effective solution comprising state of the art software and hardware integrated to achieve ultra realistic replication of a shipboard steering environment. The Simulator can be used for imparting effective and practical training to seafarers at support level. The simulator is an ideal tool for hand on training in steering aspects for deck cadets & ratings undergoing pre-sea training curriculum. The simulator realistically simulates the steering system on a vessel including simulation of Gyro Compass, Magnetic Compass, Telegraph, Auto Pilot, Rudder Angle Indicators, Rudder Order Indicator, Non Follow Up Steering and Steering Alarms.

  Components

  • Realistic Steering Stand
  • Steering Wheel
  • Gyro compass screen
  • Magnetic compass screen
  • Auto/Manual changeover controls
  • NFU steering control
  • Visual display of ship's progress through a wide range of situations ranging from open sea to crowded anchorages and harbors
  • Steering alarm system
  • Rudder angle indicator
  • Rudder order indicator
  • Engine telegraph
  • Communication system
  • Equipments are arranged in a ship-like manner

Features
  • Realistic physical components and controls
  • Replication of the dynamic behavior of ship motion in various sea condition
  • Multiple vessel models
  • Real life like simulation of the components, their processes and control systems
  • Facility to introduce failures, breakdowns and wear to all equipment simulated
  • Simulation of restrictions and failures in the steering system introduced by the simulated weather conditions. Alarms are announced by flashing alarm lamps and sounds in the 'Wheelhouse’
  • Visual simulation that permits a candidate to steer by a fixed object
  • Day and Night time Navigation
  • Realistic controls that allow switching the steering gear between hand steering & auto steering and also controls that allow switching of steering motors/pumps

Training Objectives
The following elements of safe watch keeping at sea can be taught and demonstrated:

  • Familiarisation with magnetic and gyro compasses
  • Understanding of helm orders
  • Change over from automatic to hand steering and vice versa
  • Steering under different weather conditions
  • Steering of different kind of vessels
  • Steering by visual reference of a fixed object
  • Responsibilities of a look-out, including reporting the approximate bearing of a sound signal, light or other objects in degrees and points
  • Understanding of shipboard terms and definitions
  • Use of appropriate internal communication and alarm systems
  • Ability to understand orders and to communicate with the officer of the watch in matters relevant to steering duties
