The state of the art simulator will provide significant gains in safety and with it productivity and is another step forward for SAGT to achieve its aim of being the “Hub of Tomorrow’s World”. Capt. Maciek Kwiatkowski ,Chief Executive Officer, SAGT said” I see acquiring of the Gantry crane simulator in purely practical terms. SAGT will now have a magnificent tool to enhance our relentless pursuit of world class stevedoring service delivery and workplace safety standards improvement.”
Mr. Shravan Rewari, MD, ARI said “ Based on groundbreaking work done in Simulation Technology by our researchers and domain experts, ARI simulators are widely being accepted across the globe not only for their price advantages and maintenance supports but also for being “Best of Breed” for their performance and features.”
The ARI Advanced Gantry Crane Simulator is a powerful training tool addressing the training needs in all essential aspects of safety and efficiency of crane operations. It is highly versatile and can be customised to replicate any crane model and terminal environment. The suite installed at SAGT simulates operations of a Quay Side Gantry for wharf operations and a Rubber Tyre Gantry for container yard operations – both customized to accurately emulate the cranes and the operating environment at SAGT.
Mr Partha Sanyal, VP – Special Projects, ARI remarked “At ARI we are continuously manufacturing innovative products; we currently provide our customers around the world the largest variety of advanced crane, liquid, dry bulk and material handling training simulators besides being one of the leaders in marine simulation providing full mission advanced solutions for navigation simulation, engine and propulsion simulation, communication simulation, driving simulation, etc. This simulator is our fourth in the series of Five crane simulators ordered by P&O ports / DP World Terminals for their terminals across South Asia. The three simulators already commissioned are at P&O Ports’/DP World Terminals at NSICT (Nhava Sheva near Mumbai, India), CCTL (Chennai, India) and MICT (Mundra, India)."
The simulator has been created using some of the most advanced technologies available to provide a “real”, life-like environment for training. This life like environment for training is possible through ARI’s sophisticated graphics modelling of all objects like the yard, wharfs, cranes, trucks and vessels – all customized to meet SAGT’s requirements.
The simulator allows creation of various conditions including weather effects, equipment failures and malfunctions, obstacles, etc. High fidelity audio systems provide stereoscopic surround sound effects of motors, collisions, alarms, radio communication, wind, and environment. The simulator rests on a sensitive 3-axis motion platform which recreates all the physical sensations crane operators’ experience. This combination of high visual detail, sound cues, motion cues, and man machine interface creates an unmatched immersive environment.
The skills and competence of gantry crane operators is a highly critical factor in safe and efficient operations of a container terminal. The ARI Advanced Gantry Crane Simulator provides a comprehensive training environment in safe conditions to train and improve the skills of these operators. Trainees can be tested in a virtual operating environment, and potentially dangerous and emergency scenarios can be emulated for training the operators without causing damage to the expensive actual equipment.
The simulator capabilities allow continuous monitoring and assessment of trainee performance in a safe manner, using an array of simulated equipment malfunctions and adverse weather conditions which is used for learning and improvement.
