PRE-SEA DECK CADETS TRAINING COURSE (Approved By Director General of Shipping)

 
     
 
Duration of the Course: 3.5 Months
 
Course Starts: The 1st day of every odd month starting 1st January.
 
Only candidates duly sponsored by a shipping company are admitted to the course.  The selection of candidates is done by respective Shipping Companies. Prospective candidates should consult newspaper advertisements by concerned Shipping Companies in leading dailies.
 
 
Eligibility
 
Candidates meeting the following criteria and duly sponsored by a shipping company are admitted to the course.
 
Academic Standards (As Per MS Notice 24 of 2003)
 
Pass in HSC/ISC (10 + 2) or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%.
 
Or,
 
B.Sc in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry with Physics or, Mathematics as individual subjects in one of the year with an average of not less than 55% of marks.
 
Or,
 
B.E. or B. Tech degree from a college recognized by AICTE
 
Additionally the candidate should have secured at least 50% marks in English at 10th or 10+2 Exams.
 
Maximum Age Limits
 
On commencement of training: 20 years for HSC/ISC, (10 + 2) 22 years for B.Sc and 24 years for B.E./B.Tech.
 
Physical Standards
 
As per M.S. (Medical Examination) Rules 2000.
 
Eyesight Standard
 
6/6 in each eye without visual aids. Normal colour vision.
 
Communication Skills
 
Possesses adequate ability for communication in written and spoken English.
 
Sponsorship
 
In order to avoid unemployment or frustration after completion of pre-sea training, ARI admits only those candidates who are duly sponsored by shipping companies or their managers.

In order to augment the training efforts of their own institutions, the Government of India have approved Applied Research International (A.R.I.) in the private sector to train young Indians aspiring for a career in the Merchant Navy as navigation officers through their recognized 3.5 months short Pre-Sea Course for Deck Cadets. This course has been designed as per requirements of the International Maritime Organization (I.M.O.) Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping (STCW'95).

The course aims at preparing a young 10 + 2 passed school student/Graduate at Entry level for an exciting but rigorous life at sea through an intensive program of academics, elementary professional knowledge, regimented community living with a view to turning him into a well honed integrated personality of a gentleman and an officer, capable of holding his own against seafarers belonging to any other country.
