| Mandatory for all officers (Deck & Engine) before issue of C.O.C. at Operational level and having completed Elementary First Aid. |

Ships medical chest with contents, Various splints braces etc., All different sizes and types of bandages and dressings, life size dummy for practical resuscitation training, Resuscitator, Neil-Robertson stretcher & latest teaching material.
The syllabus for this course is in accordance with and satisfies VI/4 of the International Convention on STCW for seafarers 1978 as amended in 1995 and Section A-VI/4/3 of the STCW code. |

The syllabus of the course follows the guidelines as set out by the Director General of Shipping and covers the mandatory requirements prescribed by Regulation VI/4 read along with section A-VI/4-1 of code a of the STCW convention 1978 as amended in 1995.
This course includes familiarization with the following topics:
General Principles and functioning
Casualty
Toxicological hazards aboard ships
Examination of patients
Infectious diseases
Spinal Injuries
Fractures
Dislocations & muscular injuries
Burns, Scalds and accidents caused by electricity
Medical care of rescued persons including distress, hypothermia & cold exposure
Radio Medical Advice
Pharmacology
Sterilization
Cardiac arrest
Drowning and asphyxia.
Also practical training is imparted in resuscitation, injections, catheterization.
A trainee successfully competing this course will have a knowledge and skill of first aid sufficient to take Immediate and effective action in the case of accident or illness, likely to occur on-board ship until the arrival of the person who is the charge of medial care.
On successful completion of this course the trainee will be issued a certificate stating that the he completed a course based on the table of competence as stated in section A-VI/4-I of the Code 'A' of the STCW Convention. |
