BOILER COURSE FOR ENGINEERS  
     
 
Introduction
 
This course is tailored for all engineers to achieve in depth understanding of Ship-Board Boilers-their type, design, construction, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Recommended specially for all Junior Engineers, Operational Level Engineers and Engineers on Promotion Rosters.
 
Duration: 2 Days
 
Course Intake: Ideal 6 and above.

Course Objectives
 
After the course the candidates obtain in-depth proficiency level and understanding in:

Design consideration of boiler. Thermodynamics of boiler.

Different routine/incidental boiler repairs and inspection procedures and requirements.

Examination and preparation for Survey, critical areas of Examination and Preparation, Methods of Non destructive testing and examination.

Boiler survey and certification requirements.

Boiler control and automation - Automatic combustion and feed water control systems.

Efficient combustion methods and procedures.

Operational and safety procedures related to boilers. Use of safe practices and checklists.

Construction and layout of different boilers.

Boiler mountings and fittings, their purpose, operation and maintenance - including remote type gauge glass.

Hydraulic testing procedure as per Boiler manufacturer manual.

Repairs, surveys and, maintenance of boiler tubes their methods of attachment. Tube plugging and renewal.

Refractory and brick work maintenance and repairs.

Water ph testing methods and routines.

Emission control. Requirement of various authorities regarding emission norms and compliance.

Methods to control Air Pollution.

Maintenance, care and precautions associated with steam systems.

Analyzing the measured parameters like pressure, temperatures etc. associated with boilers and to take proactive action to avoid emergencies and shutdowns.

Various Case studies on soot fire and furnaces explosion.

Course assessment carried out at end of the course.

Feed back provided to candidates and to companies on request.

Training on real time boilers and boiler fittings.

Company specific training can be provided to the candidate for general, safety, procedural, planned maintenance requirements etc.

The course provides a rich platform designed to assess and evaluate readiness for command.

A unique feature of the course is the focus on identification and addressing the individual needs of the candidates. The course is intensive and demanding since the exercises realistically recreate the on board challenges faced by the Master.

Facilitator to candidate ratio is high, at times with a 3 : 1 ratio.

Simulation exercises are conducted on a full mission ship maneuvering simulator. One technical marine expert and a marine psychologist observe the participant during the simulation exercises and provide feedback and guidance during the briefings and debriefings. All exercises are recorded for discussion and review.

The course includes detailed psychological evaluation and profiling. A detailed evaluation report is prepared at the end of the course which includes results of the personality evaluations as well as draws inputs from the candidate’s performance during the course.
