BRIDGE TEAM MANAGEMENT (BTM)  
     
 
This course meets requirements of the IMO model courses 1.22 and the recommendations of the Nautical Institute.
 
Duration: 4 Days
 
Course Intake: To encourage active participation from candidates, the ideal number of candidates ranges from 4-8 per course.
 
Frequency: Prior booking of the course
 
Entry Standards
 
Minimum 6 months of watch keeping as officer in-charge of a navigational watch and should have completed a course of training in Radar Observation/plotting.

Well - illuminated classrooms are equipped with the essential teaching aids including white-boards, over-head projectors, TV and VCD Player.
 
Teaching Equipment
 
The equipment’s include a state-of-the ARI's Ship Simulator and realistic hardware including Bridge, Hand Steering, Engine Room Telegraph, Sound Signaling Appliance, Fully Operational ARPA on 0.25 to 24 NM range, Simulated VHF Radio, Charts & Nautical Publications, Computer Projector giving forward view from bridge showing Ship’s Course, Speed, Telegraph, RPM, Rudder angle & Rate of Turn indicator.
 
Special Features
 
The course introduces the ship’s officers to bridge team procedures and teamwork, skills with special emphasis on passage planning & the master/pilot interface.
 
The Course Includes
 
Lectures on: Utilization of resources, Master-pilot relationship, Hydrodynamic interaction, ship handling under various conditions, Fuel management, Anchoring & single buoy moorings, Instrumentation & controls (Activation of dead ship) and Fault diagnosis & trouble shooting.

Lectures are substantiated with OHP slides and videos.
 
A series of practical navigational exercises performed on ARI’s ship simulator multi-screen ship handling simulator. All simulation exercises are closely monitored, assessed & evaluated by expert members of the ARI Faculty. During exercises, the trainees are expected to make use of the effective bridge procedures, to comply with International Regulation for preventing collisions at sea - 1972 and to observe the basic principles in keeping a navigational watch as set out in chapter VIII, code A of the International Convention onSTCW’95.
 
On completion, the trainees will be able to

Identify the need for teamwork skills

Organize a functional bridge team

Understand the need for good & effective communication.

Respond to challenges of bridge team members

Prepare and execute passage planning more efficiently & with greater navigational safety.

Use teamwork skills to integrate the pilot in to the bridge team.
